- The Flemish (Dutch-language Belgian) actor Julien Schoenaerts made a most notable acting career, foremost in the theatre but also on the movie - and TV screen.
Schoenaerts was born on 30 August 1925 in Eigenbilzen (Belgian province of Limburg). He once said his first public part was that of St-John at age four, when his sister put a living lamb in his arms during a Catholic procession. From age six Schoenaerts joined "Lust en Leven", the amateur theatre society his father belonged to. After classical humanities (Latin-Greek) he joined in 1948 the then two years young Studio Herman Teirlinck, after which he played ten years in Herman Teirlinck's theatre "Koninklijke Nederlandse Schouwburg" (KNS) in Antwerp. In the 1950s he toured both Dutch-speaking countries with such plays as (both in Dutch translation) "De huisbewaarder" by Harold Pinter and "De kleine prins" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Frustrated by Flanders' weak theatre policy, he emigrated north, played a year in Karl Guttmann's Ensemble and two with De Nederlandse Comedie, but remained at unease. Schoenaerts returned to Belgium, working with the Flemish public broadcaster BRT, and simultaneously started his own Ringtheater. Unable to continue both, Schoenaerts started a solo career; his last theatre performance was in 1993.
His first screen part was in 1955 in 'Meeuwen sterven in de haven' (scenario by Ivo Michiels). Memorable film parts were Pieter De Coninck in Hugo Claus' 'De Leeuw van Vlaanderen' (1983) and Monseigneur Stillemans in the Oscar-winning 'Daens' (1992). In 1999 he acted in a movie for a young audience; in 2004 he and his son Matthias Schoenaerts appeared in Rudolph Mestdagh's 'Ellektra'.
His artistic interest extended to other arts forms. In 2003 the gallery of "kunstkring Jacques Gorus" in Antwerp held an exposition of his paintings and etchings. Since the 1970s he suffered from mental problems. - Actor

Mime Misu, born Misu Rosescu, in 1888, Botosani, Romania, was a ballet dancer, pantomime artist, film actor and director. He came from a family of artists, musicians and performers. Misu Rosescu made his stage debut as a child in ballet and pantomime, displaying enough talent to be admitted to the Bucharest Art Academy. Later assigned to the Royal National Theatre, and after graduating with honors he successfully played in provincial theatres in Romania. As Mime Misu he worked for the film production companies Lux and Pathé Frères in Paris before signing up with Continental-Kunstfilm of Berlin in 1912. After having some success with his film about the sinking of the Titanic, "In Nacht und Eis" (1912), in which he adopted the drama-documentary narrative style, he aimed for the United States of America. Lacking the support from the US film industry at the same time as the Great War came to dominate the current situation, Mime Misu returned to Europe, married Bertha and settled in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. His last known film is the Dutch production "Ontmaskerd" (1915). This was followed by several trips to the USA which did not result in anything artistic. In all Mime Misu directed five feature films and made a myriad of stage appearances in Europe. He died in Antwerp, Belgium, in the summer of 1953.- Writer

- Sir Peter Paul Rubens was a Flemish artist and diplomat from the Duchy of Brabant in the Southern Netherlands (modern-day Belgium). He is considered the most influential artist of the Flemish Baroque tradition. Rubens's highly charged compositions reference erudite aspects of classical and Christian history. His unique and immensely popular Baroque style emphasized movement, co-lour, and sensuality, which followed the immediate, dramatic artistic style promoted in the Counter-Reformation. Rubens was a painter producing altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects. He was also a prolific designer of cartoons for the Flemish tapestry workshops and of frontispieces for the publishers in Antwerp.

Folk musician, banjo picker and singer, Adams arrived in Britain at the peak of the "skiffle" movement and remained. He busked around Europe with "Ramblin'" Jack Elliott, sharing a house in Waterloo, London, with among others Lionel Bart. Moved to Belgium after "Don't Look Back", by which time alcohol dependency had kicked in. Dried out in 1972 after a near-fatal collapse and made comeback album "Feelin' Fine" with Wiz Jones. Wrote songs "Portland Town" and "Wish I was a Rock".- Born in Antwerp before WW2, Paul 'S Jongers got himself noted at the local Actor's Studio (Studio Teirlinck) for his rugged good looks and easy way with lines. He soon formed a long lasting friendship with nited actor Julien Schoenaerts, and the two of them were known as a double act in Antwerp nightlife. He become closely associated with a string of 'dialect' movies released in Belgium in the 1950s (_Meeuwen Sterven in de Haven (1955)_, Schipperskwartier (1953), De bruid zonder bed (1955))before turning himself into a fully fledged theatre actor who did movies 'on the side'. Much respected by Belgium's most prolific directors, Paul suffered from a debilitating stroke in 1983 after falling off a stage in Antwerp. He lost all use of his right side, never fully recovered, and retreated into anonimity. He died only a few years later from cancer.
